The meetings come amid nearly unanimous calls from within his own party to resign over the yearbook photo that shows someone in blackface and another person in a Ku Klux Klan hood and robe. He first admitted he was in the picture, and then denied it over the weekend, but also acknowledged putting on blackface to imitate Michael Jackson at a dance contest decades ago.
Boy, BYE! We do not need someone in office who at one time thought that racism was not only a hilarious costume, but a key signifier of his med school yearbook page. I am all for redemption, people should have the chance to better themselves from past archaic views... but this photo could have been addressed and more meaningfully apologized for YEARS ago. Even now, he apologized for him being in the photo and then went back on it and denied it was him. Nope.
I am disappointed because I was ALL for Northam in the election, to be fair his competitor was far worse... but still, we can't have tolerance for someone who thought blackface and a KuKluxKlan outfit was something to celebrate.
If Northam does resign, Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax would become the second African-American governor in the state’s history.
